Why Paris Saint- Germain PSG vs Istanbul Basaksehir game was abandoned

Why PSG and Istabul Basaksehir players are icons for their UEFA Group H final match

As a football fan from the black community, I feel so sad that people in this day and age continue with racism. In this time of the Coronavirus Pandemic, where black, white or yellow have been equally affected. Instead of uniting, it so hurting to see others destroying the game that brings the whole world together to a standstill. I am happy for PSG and Istanbul players uniting, and walking away from the game to show solidarity in condemning racism in the football fields.

Tottenham Head Coach Jose Morinho stated that players from both teams did an iconic gesture that would be remembered in history for standing against racism, 15 minutes after the game had started. He continued to state that he was sorry and saddened by the situation and hopes the iconic match will act as an example to deter such incidents in future.

PSG thrashes Istanbul Basaksehir 5-1 to top Group H

A day after the match was abandoned because the racist remarks, the players returned to the field rejuvenated for an exiting game. Neymar score a hatrick for PSG with Mbappe scoring his first within an year in the competition. Although PSG had already qualified after Manchester United suffered a 3-2 disappointing defeat at the hands of RB Leipzig, their goal difference and better head-to-head match with the German side put them at the top of the group.

Closing remarks

I urge all those participating in any football match to take caution of their actions, respect each other, and treat each other like brothers. Football is the most watched sport in the world; therefore, they should be at the forefront in setting an example for all the right reason and preventing the shameful and bad situations. PSG and Istanbul Basaksehir players are now icons for walking away in protest against racism.

About Kenya Today Protecting the boy child

Protecting the boy child Before the Coronavirus global pandemic, “Attention lavished on the girl child has leftboy child lonely and adrift” by Hezron Mogambi reported from police data that there were 2,774 homicides in 2017, an increase from the previous year. From a report published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime in 2018, Kenya was amongthose countries with the highest cases of female homicides noted by Mogambi. After the pandemic started, the situation did not subside but rather escalate with more homicides.  Another disturbing report shows that “Close to 4,000 schoolgirls impregnated in Kenya during COVID-19 lockdown.”   As I continue to read and watch more of these stories, I ask myself what is the problem? Mogambi asks “aren’tthe empowerment of the girl child and the subsequent effects of a neglected boychild not the labor pains we are experiencing now?” I answer yes to Mogambi’s question. The boy child's neglect has exposed the society to the cur...
